About Us

Sugarbush Nursery opened in Spring 2005, with a mission to bring a great selection of perennials, including lots of natives and hard-to-find plants, to gardening enthusiasts in Southeastern and South central Pennsylvania.
We offer a large selection of high quality plants that are primarily
organically grown, along with organic and earth-friendly composts, fertilizers
and pest controls. In 2007, we introduced electric mowers and trimmers.
We provide customers with consistently excellent customer service in
a beautiful and relaxing garden setting. Our smaller size makes it easy
for us to give every customer personal attention and great service.
We pride ourselves on being knowledgeable about the plants and products in the nursery! Have a question about another aspect of gardening? Please ask - we love to be helpful!
News as of March 2008: Sugarbush Nursery is going native!
We've always carried a good selection of native plants, but over the
next 3 years, we will be migrating to a 100% native plants inventory.
This was a decision driven by ecological concerns, not market forces:
native plants play a crucial role in sustaining wildlife, and our over-use
of non-native plants for our home landscapes has a direct effect on
lowering populations of native birds and butterflies, among other wildlife.
Meet the Staff
Anne-Marie McMahon is the owner of Sugarbush Nursery.
She is a graduate of Longwood Gardens' Certificate Series I and II in
Ornamental Horticulture. As of September 2008, she will be a Master
Gardener in Berks County, providing a link for consumers to Penn State's
horticultural and agricultural research. She's also worked at many nurseries
over the years. If you visit Sugarbush on the weekends, you'll meet
Anne-Marie, and if you're lucky, you'll also meet her two adorable sons,
who are gardeners in training. Her husband helps out with all sorts of behind-the-scenes work, and legions of family babysitters provide crucial support - thanks, everyone!
Jan Slater joins our staff this year. Jan has been gardening for over 25 years. She and her husband, Mike, are involved with native meadow projects at Lancaster Central Park and French Creek State Park, among others. Jan has a special interest in rock gardens, and is active with the North American Rock Garden Society. She has been an exhibitor and a judge at the Philadelphia Flower Show. Jan will be at the nursery on Thursdays and Fridays this year.
Ryonne Tresler joined Sugarbush at the end of 2007. Ryonne has a special interest in and aptitude for landscaping, and is available for consultation and landscaping services (details coming soon). She has worked at several nurseries, and been a groundskeeper at a local college. Ryonne has a great knowledge of weed varieties, in particular. And, last but not least, Ryonne will be a new mother this year!
